Deesis Tympanum

A tympanum was discovered in the chapel beside the ambulatory in 1961 that may have belonged to a missing portal or tomb. It represents a Deesis, with Christ enthroned flanked by the Virgin and Saint John, accompanied by four angels with the symbols of the Passion or Arma Christi. It has been related to the Corpus Christi portal in the cloister of Burgos Cathedral. It must have been created at the same time as the Saint Anne portal, in the second third of the 14th century. It was badly damaged when it was discovered in 1961 and was restored according to intervention criteria that aimed to recover a false unity of style.
